League Campaign 2006
For our next game we entertained Coleshill Colts in what turned out to be a thrilling encounter with the Blades unfortunately ending up on the wrong side of an eleven goal feast losing out 6-5. We started off very well and created a series of chances but bad luck and good goalkeeping contrived against us and we only managed to score 2 goals in the first half. Coleshill scored a good break way goal midway into the first half to leave the half time score of 2-1 to the Blades. In the second half we were completely overwhelmed by Coleshill who came out like greyhounds and within ten minutes of the re-start they had scored 3 goals to lead 4-2. It was at this stage that the game stared to become a thrilling ding dong affair. The Blades pulled one back to 4-3. Then Coleshill scored again to make it 5-3. We then scored to make it 5-4 and then Coleshill scored again to make it 6-4. However, undaunted by this the Blades pulled another one back to make the score 6-5 in Coleshill’s favour. Unfortunately time ran out and with the score at 6-5 to Coleshill the referee blew for full time. We were shocked and gutted to lose such a thrilling game.
Our next game saw us away to Feckenham where we determined to put ourselves back on the road to victory. Both teams played entertaining football and there were loads of chances at either end. Feckenham were very quick up front and we shall have to watch out for this in the return match. Nevertheless, the Blades played great attacking football scoring 3 good goals. Feckenham responded equally well with their very quick attackers breaching the defence and also scoring 3 goals. At half time the sides were locked at 3-3. In the second half the Blades upped the tempo significantly and we tightened up at the back and managed to run out comfortable winners on a score line of 7-4.
Phoenix Colts were our next opponents in a home match. Again true to form the Blades went out and dominated the game from the first whistle. We hassled and harried very well and never gave Phoenix Colts the space or time to play. Our own football was incredible with crunching tackles being backed up with silky dribbling and passing skills. On numerous occasions we played superb defence splitting balls through for our strikers to convert. Phoenix managed to nick a consolation goal near the end of the game to leave the Blades victors on a score line of 6-1.
Next up was an away trip to Solihull to play Hampton Sports. Unfortunately we only had 10 men for this encounter in what seemed to be the “Land of the Giants”. The opposition were huge and seemed to stand head and shoulders above our lads. We even thought we were playing the wrong team at one stage. However, size matters little against skill and the Blades, giving away numerical advantage to Hampton, battled superbly and managed to come away with a 5-2 victory. We could have bagged even more goals if it wasn’t for the Hampton keeper who had the game of his life. Well done to the Blades. This was a cracking result with everyone working their socks off in a determined and skilful fashion.
Studley was the next stop on our travels. Despite winning with 10 men last time out we decided not to repeat this and were glad to have a complement of 12 men to pick from this time. In the first half Blades found Studley a real handful. Studley battled well in midfield and never gave up and passed the ball around well. However, the Blades managed to get the upper hand and scored three well crafted and well taken goals. Studley never gave up and scored 2 themselves to leave the halftime score at 3-2 to the Blades. In the second half the Blades came out fighting and began to gain the ascendancy in all areas of the pitch. Such was their dominance that Studley never really had a look in while the blades went on to score 2 more goals to round off a comfortable 5-2 victory. Similar to our match at Hampton, the Studley keeper had a blinder and prevented the Blades from scoring on many an occasion.
